The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Oral Microbiology is well equipped with the best equipment required to develop standard reports in diagnosis and interpret clinical findings. The speciality aims at acquiring adequate knowledge and the necessary skills to carry out investigative procedures and the ability to interpret laboratory findings, thus helping the dental and medical practitioners in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and anomalies of the oral and maxillofacial region.

  • Indian Council of Medical Research – Department of Health Research grant of INR 2, 21,659 for the project titled “Study of the morphological variations and age changes in permanent maxillary premolars by a new and innovative method of plastination of transparent teeth”
  • Indian Council of Medical Research – Department of Health Research grant of INR 2,07,500 for the project titled “Plastination: a method for preservation of oral hard and soft tissue biopsy specimen in comparison with the conventional method of preservation with formalin”

Services

  • Free biopsy service to Dental practitioners in and around Mangalore
  • Provision of equipment for research purposes in and outside the institution
  • Haematology service to clinicians in the institution
  • Provision of Cryostat services for reporting of urgent biopsies

  • The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Oral Microbiology was awarded THE BEST DEPARTMENT OF THE YEAR 2019 for their outstanding contribution in clinical work, research and scientific publications at the 6th Dental Academic Excellence Awards ( Guidant) held on 29th December 2019, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi
